The world is full of people who can't stand themselves. They need to be somehow different, smarter, more sophisticated, richer, prettier, thinner, better, and they spend wads of cash trying to get there. But at the end of it, nobody's any richer for it but the guy working the liposuction wand (and even he must go home once in a while wondering why in the hell he just spent eight hours in the service of vanity sucking pockets of fat from the bellies of strangers). This music isn't about fat people. It's not about happy people. This music is about all of us in the struggle to become contented people, people comfortable in our skins, people who are defined not by our jobs or our spouses or our incomes or our hairdos, but by ourselves. You define you. I define me. Then we mix it all together and, what do you know, it all adds up to life. This music is also about rocking out in a garage while huddled around a wood-burning Vogelzang. It's about drowning nerves in a flood of Tecate outside gigs at small coffee shops. It's about practicing with a straight face how to bounce like the Barenaked Ladies. It's about bowing out before you burn out and skiing midweek when the lift lines are short. It's about big dreams and the little people who harbor them. You can be FATHAPPY.
